What can I say that hasn't already been said about The Purge: Anarchy? It's good, if you're into movies where the meaty thud of someone's skull being crushed with a baseball bat on a street corner is far more audible than it should be and nothing really makes sense until the end.
The thing about The Purge is that I feel as if it's one of those films where one was enough. And even that was full of situations that didn't really make sense. In the first movie, people do stupid things and make dumb decisions. In the second movie, people also do stupid things and make dumb decisions. For example, there is a scene where one of the characters actually calls out to a purger and informs him that they are in a back room. The script is just full of things like this, it is flooded with unnecessary deaths as well, the film continuously cuts to random killings.
Another problem I have with this movie is that the plot isn't even that great, it's small and unexciting and totally predictable. Of course, the protagonist is out for revenge and i'm doing my best not to let any spoilers out but obviously, he comes across a few problems along the way and even though he is SO dead set on getting his revenge, something unknown compels him to play the hero (duh) and so, he has to look after himself and save other's at the same time. It's typical and quite repetitive in the way that just everyone gets killed, it doesn't show any form of crime other than murder. Almost like a more widespread Saw.
In my opinion, the only good thing about this movie is Frank Grillo's acting makes it bearable, he makes the film, for me, seem more realistic and worth watching just to see him perform, Other than him, it's nothing special in the respect that the plot seems blown out of proportion for what it is and the way in which the characters come together is too far fetched to make an interesting movie.
My rating is 3.5 out of 5.
